Pineapple Express is a 2008 American stoner action/comedy film directed by David Gordon Green, written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and starring Seth Rogen and James Franco with cameo appearances by Ed Begley, Jr. and James Remar.
Producer Judd Apatow, who previously worked with Rogen and Goldberg on Knocked Up and Superbad, assisted in developing the story, which was partially inspired by the buddy comedy subgenre. The film was released on August 6, 2008. Franco was nominated for a Golden Globe award for his performance in the film.
Plot: Back on August 6th I had posted a “COTD: Clip Of The Day” that was featuring a pair of actors who have finally appeared together in front of the camera for the first time in about ten years. I’m talking about none other the Freaks and Geeks graduates, Seth Rogen and James Franco, who play an unusual pair of acquaintances in the stoner comedy. The characters they play are drug fanatics with an endearing love for a new strain of pot known as Pineapple Express. The excitement of the film’s storyline kicks into high gear when process server Dale Denton (played by Seth Rogen) witnesses a local drug lord murdering a member of his drug dealing competition. In a heap of panic, Dale runs to the home of his own drug dealer Saul Silver (hilariously played by James Franco). Dale realizes that his trouble is bigger than he could even imagine when he remembers that he dropped a rolled joint of the Pineapple Express drug near where the murder took place. Saul had received the unique stash from the drug lord personally, and Saul is the only dealer in the whole area who is selling the product.
